Charterhouse is an independent private equity house with a distinctive approach.
As one of the longest established private equity firms operating in Europe, we have invested in buyouts since the early days of the market in the 1980s. We are owned by our team and focus solely on private equity investing.
With more than 140 completed transactions worth an aggregate in excess of €50 billion in value, we believe our track record and experience combine to make Charterhouse one of the most successful private equity firms in Europe.
Partnering with management
Partnering with management is key to the Charterhouse investment philosophy. We back incumbent management teams and provide active support to drive growth in our portfolio businesses.
Our success has been built on recognising and rewarding management with equity ownership in each transaction.
Focus on European Growth Companies
Charterhouse is highly selective, targeting a small number of investments in companies with attractive fundamentals. Growth is the core driver of our returns, whether achieved organically, by acquisition or through business model transformation.
Portfolio companies are headquartered in Western Europe, although frequently operate on a global basis.
Charterhouse believes that the long-term financial success of its portfolio companies can be positively influenced by robust management of environmental, social and governance (ESG) opportunities and risks. We have been a signatory to the UN PRI since 2013.
Modern Slavery affects communities and individuals across the globe, transcending age, gender and ethnicities. The UK’s Modern Slavery Act of 2015 (“MSA 2015”) aims to combat slavery, servitude, forced or compulsory labour and human trafficking. Charterhouse has taken steps pursuant to the MSA 2015 to address this issue.
Unique Team Culture
Our team works together in an open collegiate style and is based in our London office. We operate under a flat organisational structure to ensure the right combination of people can be brought together for each transaction. The way we are organised enables us to act quickly in time critical situations.
Our investment executives have worked together for an average of more than 10 years and have a diverse range of backgrounds and experience. Within the investment team there are six nationalities and seven languages spoken enabling us to identify and support companies across all core geographies in Western Europe.
